Hoops roundup: Palmer boys edge SoHi

The visiting Palmer boys basketball team notched a 64-58 Northern Lights Conference victory over Soldotna on Saturday. The Stars are 0-8 in the league and 7-15 overall.

The Moose jumped to a 17-10 lead after the first quarter, 35-29 lead at the half and 51-44 lead after three quarters.

For Palmer, Elzavier Bradley had 21, Kael Galliher had 17, Arin Mathis had nine, Evan Rothenbuhler and Gavin O’Brien each had six, Tyler Hansen had three and Fisher Adams had two.

For the Stars, Ethan Sewell poured in 28 while Nate Johnson had 16, Brock Wilson had five, Jakob Brown had three, Zac Buckbee and Maleda Denbrock had two, and Will Inman and Blake Inger had one.

CIA girls 37, Nanwalek 15

Host Cook Inlet Academy moved to 1-1 in the Peninsula Conference and 5-10 overall with a Saturday victory over Nanwalek.

Tatum Rozak had 16 for Cook Inlet Academy, while Hope Hillyer had 12, Rebekah Dillingham had five and Kaitlyn Liles had four.

For Nanwalek, Allison Seville had seven, Aggie Jimmy had four, and Trinity Huntsman and Shura Demas each had two.

CIA boys 54, Nanwalek 46

Host CIA improved to 2-1 in the Peninsula Conference and 7-7 overall by topping Nanwalek on Saturday.

CIA led 9-7 after the first quarter, 25-24 at the half and 42-40 headed to the fourth quarters.

Ian McGarry had 15 to lead CIA, while Abraham Henderson had 14, James Boyd had 11, Jeremiah Dillingham had 10 and Brady Baeten had four.

For Nanwalek, Tikhon Kvasnikoff had 28, Sean Moonin had seven, Julius Kvasnikoff had five, Cruz Kvasnikoff had four and Matthias Evans had two.

Seward girls 43, Nikiski 31

The visiting Seahawks topped the Bulldogs on Friday in Peninsula Conference action. Seward moved to 3-3 and 7-9 with its second victory over Nikiski this season, while the Bulldogs fall to 0-5 and 1-17.

Nikiski led 5-2 after the first quarter, but Seward got on track to lead 16-14 at the half and 25-22 after three quarters.

Hannah Schilling led Seward with 12 points, while Lena Jagielski and Shelby Sieminski each had 10. Also for Seward, Hailey Ingalls had six and Robin Cronin added five.

Seward boys 53, Nikiski 49

The visiting Seahawks moved to 2-1 against the Bulldogs this season by picking up the Peninsula Conference victory Friday. Seward is 2-4 and 5-11, while Nikiski is 1-4 and 6-13.

Seward led 12-11 after a quarter, but Nikiski took a 20-19 lead into the half. The Bulldogs also led 37-32 after three quarters.

Tommy Cronin paced the Seahawks with 17 points, while Ozzy Deal had 10, Nick Ambrosiani, Ben Ambrosiani and Bergen Davis had eight, and Kupono Albino had two.

For Nikiski, Charlie Chamberlain pumped in 14, while Brady Bostic had nine, Simon Grenier had eight, Drew Handley had seven, Dillon Hansen had six, Isaiah Daniels had three and Braeden Porter had two.

Ninilchik Tournament

The Ninilchik boys and Klawock girls won the Ninilchik Tournament on Saturday, while the Klawock boys and Tri-Valley girls were second place.

The Wolverines wrapped up their title with a 100-20 win over Bristol Bay. Ninilchik is now 16-0 after hitting the century mark for the first time this season.

Jaylin Scott had 27 for Ninilchik, while Cole Moore had 20, Lukah Kalugin and Blake Lemons each had 13, Cody Blossom had eight, Landon Colburn had five, and Rowan Mahoney and Wyatt McCloskey each had four.

For Bristol Bay, Chad Anderson led the way with six.

Tri-Valley finished the tournament by topping Ninilchik 50-26 to drop the Wolverines to 4-17 overall.

Melanie Randell had 14 to lead Tri-Valley.

For the Ninilchik girls, Zoya Fefelov had 11, Autumn Calabrese had eight, Riley Tucker had five and Dakotah Buhr had two.

Also Saturday, the Klawock girls topped Tri-Valley 41-34 and the Klawock boys topped Tri-Valley 85-48.

Friday, the Klawock girls topped Ninilchik 50-28. For Klawock, Kenai Holien and Zoey Edenshaw each had 12, while Kayia Marvin had 10, Mckinley Holien had seven, Lea Armour had six and Bella Hoppe had three.

For Ninilchik, Riley Tucker had 12, Zoya Fefelov had 10, Autumn Calabrese had four and Mia Denboer had two.

Also Friday, the Ninilchik boys defeated Klawock 88-27. Landon Colburn erupted for 34 points for the Wolverines, while Jaylin Scott had 17, Blake Lemons had 13, Lukah Kalugin had 10, Justin Trail had eight and Cole Moore had six.

For Klawock, Jacob Isaacs had 11, Marley Kness had seven, Dalton Wyzykowski had five, and Connor Bagby and Emett Fairbanks had two.

In the early games Friday, the Bristol Bay boys topped Tri-Valley 46-32, while the Klawock girls defeated Tri-Valley 43-27.

Landon Colburn was the boys MVP, while Kenai Holien was the girls MVP.

Also on the girls all-tourney team were Riley Tucker of Ninilchik, Ayla Walker of Tri-Valley, Zoya Fefelov of Ninilchik, Kaya Marvin of Klawock, Ellie Vandaventer of Tri-Valley, Lea Armour of Klawock, Zoey Edenshaw of Klawock and McKinley Holien of Klawock.

Also on the boys all-tournament team were Cole Moore of Ninilchik, Jaylin Scott of Ninilchik, Nathan Hansen of Bristol Bay, Lukah Kalugin of Ninilchik, Senen Torino of Bristol Bay, Justin Trail of Ninilchik, Marley Kness of Klawock and Josh Renshaw of Tri-Valley.

The girls free-throw award went to Riley Tucker of Ninilchik, while the handler award also went to Tucker. The boys free-throw award went to Lukah Kalugin, while the handler award went to Mike Renshaw.
