Homer, SoHi split hockey games

The Homer and Soldotna hockey teams split junior varsity games Friday and Saturday.

The contests came about when Anchorage teams were not able to travel to the Kenai Peninsula for games this weekend. Kenai did not play this weekend, while Homer and Soldotna played two junior varsity games featuring a healthy mix of varsity players.

Homer won 4-1 on Friday night in Homer, then Soldotna won 3-2 in a shootout Saturday in Soldotna.

Soldotna 3, Homer 2, SO

The Mariners scored twice in the third period to tie up the game, but the Stars were able to take the five-person shootout.

In the first period, Daniel Heath put the Stars up with an unassisted goal. In the second, Zeek Miller, on an assist from Josh O’Lena, put the Stars up 2-0.

In the third period, Micah Williamson and Matfey Reutov scored unassisted for Homer to tie the game.

In the shootout, Aiden Burcham of Soldotna and Williamson of Homer had goals, and Heath notched the game-winner for SoHi.

Aiden See had 20 saves for the Stars, while Keegan Strong had 27 for Homer.

Homer 4, Soldotna 1

Friday in Homer, the Mariners notched a victory on senior night.

Homer’s Kazden Stineff had the lone goal of the first period, assisted by Matfey Reutov.

The Mariners went up 3-0 in the second on goals by Micah Williamson, assisted by Casey Otis and Makary Reutov, and River Henry, assisted by Williamson. Dylan Dahlgren, assisted by Gehret Medcoff, scored late in the second for Soldotna.

In the third, Matfey Reutov, assisted by Williamson, finished off the scoring for Homer.

Tanner Clyde stopped 35 for the Stars.
