Weekend volleyball: Kenai, SoHi notch conference sweeps on road

The visiting Soldotna volleyball team swept Palmer on Friday and Saturday in Northern Lights Conference action.

The Stars defeated Palmer 25-18, 25-21 and 25-17 on Friday, then won 26-24, 25-20 and 25-14 on Saturday.

The Stars moved their record to 3-3 in the league and 5-4 in nontournament play.

Friday, SoHi recorded 16 aces.

Sadie Lane had 15 kills and five aces for SoHi, while Athena Rossiter had six kills, Hallie Fischer had five blocks and four aces, Sarah Brown had 20 assists, Kiara Forkner had 12 digs and Morgan Simac had six kills.

SoHi coach Luke Baumer said the team continued to serve well Saturday, recording 15 aces while missing only 10 serves.

Lane had 14 digs, 11 kills and two aces, while Forkner had 12 digs and three aces, Simac had eight kills, Fischer had seven kills and three aces, Rossiter had five kills and three aces, and Abygale Schaeffer had six kills.

Kenai sweeps conference play on road

Kenai Central went on the road to defeat Mountain City Christian School on Friday and Grace Christian on Saturday. The Kardinals are now 7-1 in nontournament play and 6-0 in the league.

The Kardinals won 25-23, 25-12 and 25-8 on Friday over MCCS.

Emma Beck had 24 kills and 13 digs for the Kards, while Sophie Tapley had six kills, Jaycie Castillo had 16 digs and three aces, Ellsi Miller had 11 digs and three aces, Kate Wisnewski had 30 assists, three kills and seven digs, Avia Miller had three kills, and Camilla Gonzalez had three aces and seven digs.

Saturday, Kenai topped the Grizzlies 25-7, 25-10 and 25-10.

Beck had 17 kills, 14 digs, four aces and three assists, while Grace Beiser had seven kills, six aces and five digs, Wisnewski had 23 assists, nine digs and four kills, Castillo had 12 digs, Ellsi Miller had five digs and three aces, and Gonzalez had five digs.

Nikiski 3, Seward 1

The host Bulldogs defeated Seward 23-25, 31-29, 25-13 and 25-19 on Saturday in Southcentral Conference play.

Nikiski is 7-4 in nontournament play and 1-1 in the league, while Seward is 2-2 and 2-2.

Kailey Stynsberg had 27 digs for the Bulldogs, while Abby White had 19 digs, Maggie Grenier had 17 assists and two aces, Avery Ellis had 19 assists and five aces, Ashlynne Playle had 14 kills, five blocks and five aces, and Mandee Roofe had 10 kills and eight blocks.

Seward 3, Homer 1

The host Seahawks topped the Mariners 25-23, 25-22, 24-26 and 29-27 in Friday Southcentral Conference action.

Homer is 0-4 in the conference and 0-7 in nontournament play.

Alexandra Casey had five blocks for the Mariners, while Channing Lowney had 16 kills and Rebecca Trowbridge had 28 assists.

Homer coach Ian Overson said in a text message that it was the best blocking game the Mariners have had all season, but the serving game was not as good as the team would like it.
