Area wrestlers compete at Smash Nationals

Just under 30 wrestlers from the area competed at Smash Nationals on Dec. 5 and 6 in Bullhead City, Arizona.

Six wrestlers were able to place at the folkstyle tournament.

At 15U Boys, 144 pounds, Issac Chavarria, wrestling for the All American Training Center, lost the second-place match to Angelo Posada by getting pinned. He finished third by topping Elias Reyes of California by a 10-0 major decision.

At 15U Rookie, 144 pounds, Alexander Barajas of Kenai, wrestling for the All American Training Center, pinned Marek Ralph of Utah in 1:54 to take fifth.

At 18U boys, 182 pounds, Sean Babitt of Kasilof, wrestling for the All American Training Center, lost the second-place match to Carter Holtz of Minnesota by getting pinned. Babbit notched a 4-0 decision over Remington Peterson in the third-place match.

At 18U girls, 145 pounds, Trinity Donovan of Soldotna, wrestling for All American Training Center, lost the third-place match by getting pinned by Johanna Forman.

At 10U boys, 73 pounds, Hudson Morris, wrestling for Soldotna Whalers, won the second-place match with a 10-4 decision over Brandon Ramos.

At 7U boys, 53 pounds, Kanin Kumfer of Kenai, wrestling for Team Alaska, made it to the first-place match before getting pinned by Dragon Martinez. Kumfer also lost the second place match to Joseph Cervantes of California.
