Snow, wind, and possible rain forecast for tonight

A winter weather advisory is in effect from 9 p.m. tonight until 5 a.m. Wednesday

An inch of snow, slippery roads and poor visibility are forecast by the National Weather Service for the western Kenai Peninsula from Anchor Point to Nikiski in a winter weather advisory effective from 9 p.m. tonight until 5 a.m. Wednesday.

The advisory warns of “snow and blowing snow,” with accumulation of up to an inch and gusts of wind up to 35 miles per hour.

Snow is expected to develop first in Anchor Point, it says, moving north to Nikiski. Blowing snow “will be fairly short lived,” only lasting a few hours in “any given location.”

Temperatures are expected to warm overnight, which may cause the snowfall to shift to rain before precipitation ends.

The service says drivers should use caution while driving during and after the event.

A winter weather advisory is also in effect for Seward and Moose Pass warning of up to 14 inches of snow and slippery roads through Wednesday evening. Anchorage is under both a winter storm watch and a flood watch until Thursday evening.
