A fourth set of remains were recovered this week from the vessel discovered in Kachemak Bay that sank last August, according to a dispatch released Wednesday by Alaska Wildlife Troopers.
The vessel was located in early May by troopers, Support Vessels of Alaska, Vision Subsea and Benthic Geoscience Inc, who had offered their assistance and professional tools to conduct additional searching after the unsuccessful initial search last year. Volunteers conducted dive operations into the vessel on May 27 and 28 and recovered three sets of remains, believed to belong to Waco, Texas, residents who were reported missing.
Alaska State Troopers Communications Director Austin McDaniel confirmed Wednesday that the three sets of remains have been positively identified as David Maynard, 42, Mary Maynard, 37, and Colton Maynard, 11.
According to the release, the Alaska Dive Search, Rescue and Recovering Team and Alaska Wildlife Troopers conducted additional dives at the site of the sunken vessel on June 9 and 10, and recovered additional human remains which have been sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy and positive identification.
McDaniel said that a positive identification for the fourth set of remains is still forthcoming — however, troopers and divers believe at this time that the remains of all four missing members of the Maynard family have been recovered from the vessel.
