A Homer Electric Association outage Wednesday night that left much of Kenai without power starting around 7:20 p.m. had been resolved by around 9 p.m.
HEA said on Facebook at 7:55 p.m. that approximately 2,700 people had their power shut off Wednesday night from what appeared to be an equipment failure at the Marathon substation. HEA said officials had identified the problem and expected that power would be restored shortly.
Multiple clients on Facebook mentioned the outage could affect people’s home heating systems. According to AccuWeather around 8 p.m., it was just 2 degrees Fahrenheit outside.
At 8:15 p.m. town stoplights along the Kenai Spur Highway were out, but lights could be seen across the inlet near the intersection of Bridge Access and Kalifornsky Beach roads.
As of 8:55 p.m. Wednesday HEA said it had restored power to all its clients.
There appeared to be no outages in Soldotna or Sterling.
