Additional charges have been brought against a Ninilchik resident arrested last month for allegedly stealing a truck from a Soldotna gas station and then fleeing police, after police say she cut off her electronic monitoring device and evaded capture for around three weeks.
According to previous Clarion reporting, Hannah Kelson, 26, was arrested and charged with first-degree vehicle theft and first-degree failure to stop at the direction of a peace officer following a police chase through Sterling around 2 a.m. on March 19.
Court documents say that Kelson was arraigned later that week and was released when she posted bail of $2,000 on March 21. According to a criminal complaint on March 27, Soldotna Police were notified around 4 a.m. that Kelson had cut off her electronic monitoring device. A warrant request dated for March 31 says that Kelson “has since taken steps to evade capture.”
A Wednesday dispatch says Kelson was found on Thursday, close to noon, and had methamphetamine. She was arrested on charges of violating conditions of release, as well as second-degree escape and fourth-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance.
Kelson was arraigned Monday. Bail is now set at $10,000 for the original theft charge and $5,000 for the escape charge. Both also now require a third-party custodian, according to court information. Kelson’s next court appearance is on May 1.
