An Anchor Point man is in custody after allegedly crashing a vehicle later discovered to be stolen.
Alaska State Troopers arrested Colter Demers, 33, on Feb. 2 in connection with a vehicle theft and abandoning the scene of a crash on Jan. 19. Troopers initially investigated a report of a vehicle that had been crashed near mile 13 of North Fork Road outside Anchor Point, but were unable to find a driver at the time, according to an online dispatch. Investigation found that Demers had been driving at the time, according to the dispatch.
“On (Jan. 1, 2018) the vehicle that had been involved in the collision was reported stolen out of Anchorage,” the dispatch states.
On Friday, troopers received a tip that Demers was parked at the Anchor Point Petro. They found him sleeping in his car and had a controlled substance on him, according to the dispatch.
Troopers arrested Demers on another outstanding warrant and charged him with one count of misconduct involving controlled substances in the fourth degree, a class A misdemeanor; theft in the second degree, a class A misdemeanor; and failure to immediately give notice of an accident, an unclassified misdemeanor.
He was arraigned Saturday at the Homer Courthouse.
