Alaska State Troopers, the Kenai Police Department and the State Department of Fish and Game are searching for a bear that attacked a Kenai woman near her home early Tuesday morning.
According to a dispatch from troopers, Kenai Police were first called around 7 a.m. and responded to Chinook Drive, just off the Kenai Spur Highway between the Eagle Rock and Pillars boat launches.
The woman, 36, had left her home before 6 a.m. to go jogging and was near her own driveway when a bear attacked her. She was found by a neighbor and medevaced to Anchorage with “serious injuries.”
As of Tuesday afternoon, the bear had not been found despite a search by police, wildlife troopers and fish and game personnel on foot and by drone. The dispatch does not include any description of the bear, but encourages people to “remain vigilant while outdoors” and says that patrols of the area “will continue.”
