A collision in Kasilof left two dead and another with serious injuries on Thursday.

According to a dispatch from Alaska State Troopers, they were notified around 3:40 p.m. of a multi-vehicle collision near Mile 110 of the Sterling Highway, which is in the area of Tustumena Elementary School and the Central Emergency Services station.

Troopers reported that a Toyota sedan traveling north toward Soldotna slowed for a school zone and that a northbound Ford pickup truck collided with the rear of the slowing vehicle.

The Toyota “lost control” and was stuck by a Dodge van traveling south in the direction of Homer, troopers said.

The driver of the Toyota, Dino Leite, a 56-year-old from Kasilof, was found dead at the scene. His passenger, 26-year-old Chase Logan, died while en route to the hospital.

Two occupants of the Dodge van were transported to the hospital, the driver with “minor injuries” and a passenger with “serious injuries.”

The Sterling Highway was fully closed for around an hour and a half, the dispatch said, as troopers documented the scene and cleared debris. It was partially closed for a further hour and a half and was fully reopened near 7 p.m.
