The Harvest Moon Local Food Festival will return to Soldotna Creek Park on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The annual festival, put on by the Kenai Local Food Collection, showcases locally grown food and locally made products in a format that includes a marketplace, cooking demonstrations, educational talks, children’s activities, live music and a pie baking contest.
A release from the collection says that this year’s market will include fresh produce and artisanal foods like pickles and kombucha, as well as locally sourced, harvested or baked breads, pastries, honey, coffee and more. Food trucks at the festival will also feature Alaska-sourced foods.
“This festival strengthens our local food system by creating meaningful and personal connections between producers and consumers,” said Eliza Eller of Kenai Local Food Connection in the release. “By celebrating our region’s agricultural abundance, chefs and kitchen crafters, we’re promoting food security and community wellness across the Central Peninsula.”
To join the pie baking contest, preregister through a link on the Facebook page and then bake a pie featuring one or more Alaska-grown ingredients. Prizes will be awarded in three categories, for youth aged 15 or younger, adults between 16 and 64 and for “homesteaders” older than 65.
