Ahead of the coming colder months, the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank on Tuesday announced a food drive seeking to bring in donated, non-perishable foods to drop-off locations in Kenai, Soldotna and Sterling and “stock the food bank’s shelves.”
Called the “Freedom From Hunger” community food drive, the food bank is calling for donations through Sept. 13 at Walmart, Safeway, Three Bears, IGA, Save U More and Fred Meyer locations across the central Kenai Peninsula. Donations can also be made online at kpfoodbank.org/ffh2025/.
“This food drive is about neighbors helping neighbors,” Johna Beech, interim executive director of the food bank, says in the release. “Every can, box, and bag of food donated makes a real difference for families facing hunger in our community.”
The release cites a need to replenish stores of food before winter, “ensuring families in need have access to essential food supplies.” The fundraiser is being organized with JustServe, a group that links volunteers with causes, and the release says participation would be welcomed from individuals, families, schools and businesses.
