Exit Glacier, located within Kenai Fjords National Park near Seward, was reopened for the summer season on Friday, according to a release from the National Park Service.
The release notes that “significant amounts” of snow remain at the glacier and nearby trails. Visitors should check the park website for updated conditions and ensure they are prepared before visiting the area.
Also present near Exit Glacier, the release says, is “evidence of significant bear activity.” The release says that visitors should be aware and practice bear safety. That includes carrying bear spray and making noise.
Also on Friday, according to a second release, Exit Glacier was closed to snowmachine use within the park boundary, its parking areas and Exit Creek. The closure will be in effect until snow and ice conditions return to the park.
