Clarion and KDLL candidate forum series continues, assembly forum canceled

Thursday’s forum will feature Soldotna City Council candidates Jordan Chilson and Linda Farnsworth-Hutchings

The next electoral forum hosted by Peninsula Clarion and KDLL 91.9 FM will take place Thursday, Sept. 5 at 6 p.m. and feature Soldotna City Council candidates Jordan Chilson and Linda Farnsworth-Hutchings.

The Clarion and KDLL are for the third year hosting the series of live, open-to-the-public candidate forums ahead of the municipal and general elections, in partnership with the Central Kenai Peninsula League of Women Voters, KBBI AM 890 and KSRM 920 AM.

So far, we’ve heard from candidates for Kenai City Council and Homer City Council. Full recordings of both forums are available on the “Peninsula Clarion” Facebook page, and condensed versions of both forums can be found at peninsulaclarion.com. We’ll be in Seward next week, on Sept. 12, to hear from candidates for Seward City Council. The last forum before the municipal election will be with candidates for the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District Board of Education on Sept. 16 in Soldotna.

All forums run from 6 to 7 p.m. in local libraries. Soldotna forums are held in the Soldotna Public Library and Seward’s forum will be held at the Seward Community Library.

A forum with the candidates for Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly on Tuesday, Sept. 20, has been canceled. The Clarion has reached out to candidates James Baisden, Kalifornsky; Cindy Ecklund, East Peninsula; and Willy Dunne, South Peninsula, for interviews scheduled to run in the weeks leading up to the municipal election on Oct. 1.

More forums will be held in October covering the races for local seats on the Alaska Legislature.

Forums will be moderated by KDLL reporter Ashlyn O’Hara, KBBI reporter Jamie Diep, and Clarion general assignment reporter Jake Dye. Questions asked during the forums will come from KDLL, KBBI, the Clarion and KSRM, in addition to questions submitted by members of the public in advance at info@kdll.org.

Each forum will also be livestreamed on the “Peninsula Clarion” Facebook page and broadcast live on the radio at KDLL 91.9 FM, KBBI 890 AM, KSRM 920 AM or KSRM 92.5 FM.

More information about the KDLL and Peninsula Clarion 2024 Candidate Forum Series can be found online at kdll.org or at peninsulaclarion.com.
