The Central Peninsula Special Olympics bowling team, led by coaches Tina Strayhorn and Lois Azzara, won the state championship in Anchorage last weekend. Twelve local athletes competed at Eagle River Bowl Nov. 21-23. Each of the Central Peninsula’s three teams earned gold medals in their division finals, and eight additional gold medals were earned during singles and doubles competition.
Members of the Central Peninsula team include Joe Romig, Ric Hunter, Chuck Davis, Virginia Waters, Samantha Romig, Jenni Giles, Molly Joseph, Elisha Smith, Katrina Panzel, Sheri Phelps, Kendra Derning and Shawna Lukassen.
