Sterling Lutheran welcomes Hilgendorfs

Sterling Lutheran Church welcomes Bill and Roberta Hilgendorf. Bill is a lay minister/Deacon who is leading services during June and July. Both Bill and Roberta are graduates of Concordia College in Seward, Nebraska and are retired Lutheran school teachers. Bill taught elementary grades for 33 years and Roberta is a music teacher, with experience in band, choirs, organ and piano. They live in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, and have been to visit Alaska twice before. They have two children and three granddaughters. Bill has done taxes for H&R Block for 18 years. They look forward to getting to know the community.

Bill and Roberta are hosting Bible classes on Tuesday evenings at 6 p.m. for anyone in the community. Roberta is offering six weeks of music Camp for Little People ages 3 to 6 on Mondays teaching music theory and piano preparation activities. Vacation Bible School is planned for July 13-15. UA professor to speak at God and Country Rally

The Kenai Peninsula “Happy Birthday America” Committee is pleased to announce that the 24th annual “God and Country” Rally will be held on June 28 at 6 p.m. at the Peninsula Christian Center in Soldotna (behind Soldotna Salvation Army on the Spur Highway). The guest speaker will be Dr. Richard “Clayton” Trotter, a law Professor at the University of Alaska Anchorage. He is an author, father of 11, and a minister at Muldoon Community Assembly. He is working on the second edition of his most recent book, “Real Estate Law with Alaska Cases.” His three Alaska Textbooks are the first college-level texts to include Alaska history.

The “Happy Birthday America” God and Country Rallies are to “recognize God’s blessings on our country and honor all of our veterans.” In addition to the speaker, the rally will include a Color Guard, Prayer Service for Families and all Service personnel, Patriotic music, Christian music and service anthems.

Youth group plans garage sale

The Star of the North Lutheran Church is having its Annual Youth Group Garage Sale July 17-18 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The church is located at 216 N. Forest Drive in Kenai. For more information, call 283-4153.

Vacation Bible School

— The Midnight Son Seventh Day Adventist church is doing a Savannah Safari VBS June 22-26 from 3:00-5:30 p.m. There will be a puppet show, bible lesson, snack, and craft. All ages are welcome. To register or for more information call or text Toni Loop at 740-1476.

Soldotna Day Aglow hosts brunch

Soldotna Day Aglow is hosting a brunch on July 15 with Judy Risung from 10 a.m. to noon. Please bring a dish to share. Childcare is provided. All are welcome to attend. Aglow International is founded on prayer and compassionate outreach. It is located at Peninsula Christian Center, 161 Farnsworth Blvd., Soldotna.

Apostolic Assembly plans youth activities

The Apostolic Assembly of Jesus Christ church youth group will be hosting events for middle school and high school kids.

Soldotna Food Pantry open weekly

The Soldotna Food Pantry is open every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for residents in the community who are experiencing food shortages. The Food Pantry is located at the Soldotna United Methodist Church at 158 South Binkley Street, and all are welcome.

Non-perishable food items or monetary donations may be dropped off at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. or on Sunday from 9 a.m. until noon.

United Methodist Church provides food pantry

The Kenai United Methodist Church provides a food pantry for those in need every Monday from noon to 3 p.m. The Methodist Church is located on the Kenai Spur Highway next to the Boys and Girls Club. The entrance to the Food Pantry is through the side door. The Pantry closes for holidays.

Clothes 4 U at First Baptist Church

First Baptist Church Soldotna, located at 159 S. Binkley Street, is re-opening its Clothes 4 U program. It is open on the second and fourth Saturday of each month from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. All clothing and shoes are free to the public.

Clothes Quarters open weekly

Clothes Quarters at Our Lady of the Angels Church is open every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the first Saturday of every month from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, call 907-283-4555.
