Kenai seniors grateful for Thanksgiving, Veteran’s Day programs

A big thank you to Hilcorp Alaska, LLC and their staff! The beginning of the Holiday Season was kicked off with the Annual Peninsula-Wide Senior Thanksgiving Dinner on November 22, 2016. This has been a Thanksgiving tradition tor many years. For our seniors, the dinner kicks off the holiday season in a very positive way. Holidays can be stressful; sometimes a depressing time for seniors with feelings of loss, depression and loneliness. With an event such as this, it is a way of community coming together to share the wonderful spirit of the holidays. My staff and I are very thankful to Hilcorp Alaska, LLC for continuing the long-time tradition to our seniors. The monetary donation to purchase food for the event, Hilcorp’s wonderful caring employees that volunteer for the day by setting up, serving, clean up and even putting our Christmas tree in place, to be ready tor decorating is greatly appreciated. The seniors delight in the door prizes, the friendly conversation shared during the event. This event brings much joy to our seniors. Thank you for giving of your time! We hope each and everyone of you have a wonderful holiday and Happy New Year!

Veteran’s Day is a special honorable time at the Kenai Senior Center! I would like to thank Kenai Senior Connection, Inc., Kenai Aviation-Ken Lucas, Kristi Babcock-State Farm Insurance, Michael Petty-Moncla Drilling Operations, LLC, Morgan Steel, and Peninsula Memorial Chapel for monetary donations to assist in paying for the dinners of the Veterans, and all our wonderful volunteers on this special day! A big thank you for the American Legion Post 20 and the American Legion who presented the color guard, and the program for the day, to the Mountain View Elementary Choir for sharing their musical talents, the Mountain View Elementary Student Council and to the Kenai Peninsula College ABE Class for serving the meal and helping with clean-up. We applaud the forty Veterans who were present and shared their areas of service. It was a wonderful program and very humbling to be in the presence of the men and women of Service to our Country. Thank you to all who contributed and participated in the heartfelt event.
