‘Iron Mike’ statue project moves forward

Because of the love for veterans throughout this state and nation, the “Iron Mike” project has raised the first $10,000 to complete the installation of the 5-foot-tall bronze Iron Mike statue at the entrance to Soldotna Creek Park, the most beautiful city park in Alaska.

Every donation is “to honor all veterans” and we appreciate every person who has assisted us in our task.

$1-$99 — Judy Keck-Walsh, Dave Richard, and Colleen Carey Posey of Wortham, Texas.

$100-$249 — K-Beach AmVets Men’s Auxiliary, Tom Randall at KSRM, Airborne Steve Wright, Jane Stein, Paulette Fender Ober of Mt. Home, Arizona, Big “G” Electric, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Kenai American Legion, and James Fassler.

$250-$499 — Kathy Gensel, the Ladies Auxiliary at the Soldotna VFW, and the Ladies Auxiliary at Bethel VFW.

$500-$999 — The “40 & 8” at the Kenai American Legion, the Soldotna Elks Lodge #2706, the Anchor Point VFW, and Preston “Nick” Nelson.

$1000 plus — the Military Order of the Cootie at the Soldotna VFW, the Loyal Order of the Moose Family Center in Kenai, and Rosin Investments (Duck Inn).

$100.75 was raised in donations at the Kenai Air Faire, and $2,927.20 was donated at the Soldotna Catholic Church Garage Sale.
