Wednesday: Kenai basketball sweeps Kotzebue

The host Kenai Central girls and boys basketball teams swept Kotzebue in nonconference basketball action Wednesday.

The Kardinals girls notched a 45-41 victory over the Huskies. Kenai is 4-4 overall, while Kotzebue is 2-4.

Kotzebue led 11-9 after a quarter, 19-17 at the half and 33-30 after three quarters. The Kards had five different players score in controlling the fourth quarter.

Bryleigh Williams had 13 points to pace Kenai, while Willow Graham had 8, Sierra Hershberger and McKenzie Spence had 7, Gracee Every had 4, and Evelyn Cooper, Jenica Anderson and Ellsi Miller had 2 apiece.

For the Huskies, McKenzie Swanson had 16 while Pauline McCall and Mylie McConnell each had 7, Caliana Sheldon had 6 and Elizabeth Brown had 5.

The Kenai boys rolled to a 71-38 victory. The Kards are 5-3, while the Huskies are 1-6.

Miles Metteer poured in 23 for Kenai, while Caleb Litke had 18, Ben Harris had 9,Riel Castillo and Reid Titus had 6, Mason Tunseth had 4, Carter Felchle had 3 and Eli Smith had 2.

For Kotzebue, Eugine Zuninga pumped in 20, Anthony Lambert had 12 and Ben Marcus had 6.
