Volleyball roundup: Homer tops Nikiski; Wasilla sweeps SoHi

The host Homer volleyball team outlasted Nikiski for a five-game Southcentral Conference victory Saturday.

The Mariners moved to 1-1 in the league and 1-1 in nontournament matches, while the Bulldogs dropped to 0-1 in the league and 1-1 in nontournament matches. The scores were 24-26, 23-25, 25-17, 25-18, 15-6.

Izzy Dye had 14 kills for the Mariners, while Nevaeh Diaz had seven kills, Channing Lowney had five kills and Gracie Miotke had five kills. Brooke Shafer had 31 assists for Homer.

The Mariners had 20 team aces, with five of those coming from Lowney.

The Bulldogs had 20 missed serves in the match, but were still able to push it to five. Ashlynne Playle had seven kills, 12 blocks and eight aces to lead Nikiski, while Kailey Stynsberg had 20 digs and Savanna Stock had nine assists.

The host Warriors topped the Stars 25-12, 25-17 and 25-15 in Northern Lights Conference play Saturday. SoHi drops to 0-4 in the league and 0-5 in nontournament play.

Nicole Dickinson had 14 assists for the Stars, while Katelyn Morrison had nine digs.
