Twins top East in season opener

The American Legion Post 20 Twins used a steady dose of offense to top East 14-3 in Anchorage in the season opener for both teams.

The Twins scored two in the first, second and fifth innings, plus three in the fourth and five in the sixth. East got all of its three runs in the second inning.

Jacob Belger was 3 for 5 with two runs for the Twins, while Hunter Williams was 2 for 4 with two runs, Gabe Smith had two RBIs, Nate Mowery had two runs, Levi Mickelson had two runs and Daltyn Deborski had two runs.

The Twins got through the game with three pitchers.

Charlie Chamberlain started, going 1 2-3 innings and giving up three runs on three hits while walking three and striking out one.

Williams and Atticus Gibson combined to keep the Thunderbirds off the board for the rest of the game. Williams went two innings, giving up a hit and walk while striking out four, while Gibson went 2 1-3 hitless innings, walking one and striking out one.

The Twins stay in Anchorage to take on Bartlett today with a league game at noon and a nonleague game at 2:30 p.m.
