Thursday: Miners cruise past Oilers again

The Mat-Su Miners defeated the Peninsula Oilers 10-1 on Thursday in Alaska Baseball League play at Hermon Brothers Field in Palmer.

The Oilers fall to 1-3 and 0-2 against the Miners, who are now 4-1. Peninsula also lost to Mat-Su 9-2 in the season opener.

Peninsula grabbed the lead in the top of the first inning when Colin Robson singled to score leadoff hitter Max Roffwarg.

After that, it was all Mat-Su.

The Miners put across six runs in the bottom of the first inning, then two in the third and two in the fourth.

Max Sasaki lasted an inning for the Oilers as the starter. He gave up six runs on five hits, walking two and striking out none.

Emerson Fleck gave up four runs on two hits in 3 1-3 innings of relief. He walked three and struck out none.

Seth Bougher and Cameron Teper kept the Miners hitless in the late innings.

Bougher went 2 2-3 innings and walked one while striking out two. Teper didn’t walk a batter and struck out one.

In addition to Roffwarg and Robson, Aidan Sullivan, Ty Thomas and Brock Wirthgen had the hits for the Oilers.

The Oilers now have three games as part of the ABL Scouts Showcase, all at Mulcahy Stadium in Anchorage.

Friday, the Oilers face the Anchorage Glacier Pilots at 3:10 p.m.

The Oilers and Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks square off at noon Saturday. The Miners and Oilers face each other again at 6 p.m. Sunday.

The Oilers then travel back to Kenai for their first homestand of the season at Coral Seymour Memorial Park.

Peninsula plays the Miners in a five-game series starting Tuesday, June 18, and ending Saturday, June 22. All games in the series are at 6 p.m.

The Anchorage Bucs then come to town from Tuesday, June 25, to Saturday, June 29. All of those games also are at 6 p.m.
