Thursday hoops: Kenai and Homer split, Soldotna splits with East

Homer girls 51, Kenai 41

The Homer Mariners topped the visiting Kenai Kardinals on Thursday 51-41, advancing to 12-6 overall. The Kardinals fall to 4-12.

Sydney Shelby led scoring for the Mariners with 20 points. Minadora Reutov had 12, Channing Lowney had 10, Keagen Niebuhr had 4, Lillie Mae Kuhn had 3 and both Gracie Miotke and Hadley Glidden had 1.

Emma Beck put 25 on the board for Kenai. Emilee WIlson had 8, Sierra Hershberger had 4, Ellsi Miller had 3 and Avia Miller had 1.

Kenai boys 60, Homer 53

The Kenai Central boys bested the Homer Mariners on Thursday 60-53, advancing to 5-10 overall. The Mariners drop to 5-13.

For the Kardinals, Reid Titus put 19 points on the board. Trae Pitsch had 12, Miles Metteer had 11, Carter Felchle and Daniel Steffensen had 7. Garrett McCanna and Jacob Katzenberger both had 2.

The Mariners were paced by CJ Burns, who had 19 points. Nathan Overson had 15, Lucas Story and Spencer Dye had 6, Einar Pederson had 4, Riley Huffman had 3.

Soldotna girls 41, East 32

The visiting Soldotna girls took a win over East on Thursday with a score of 41-32, improving to 10-8 overall.

For Soldotna, Hope Hillyer led scoring with 14 points. Close behind was Kaytlin McAnelly at 12. Anaulie Sedivy had 9, Sarah Brown had 4 and Laurel Johnson had 2.

Soldotna boys 41, East 80

The host East High School boys topped Soldotna on Thursday 80-41, dropping the Stars to 9-10 overall.

For the Stars, Izaiah Gilbert had 20 points. Easton Hawkins had 9, Cameron Laroque and Chris Glaves had 3. Theo Huff, Andrew Pieh and Jayden Stuyvesant all had 2.

Ninilchik Invitational Basketball Tournament

Tok girls 56, Ninilchik 48

The Ninilchik girls were topped by Tok in their first game of the Ninilchik Invitational Basketball Tournament. They fall to 9-11 overall.

For Tok, Skyla Frank Young led scoring with 20. Danica Sanford had 15, Lesette Standifer had 14, Minacie Jimmie Soloman and Nova Paul both had 3 and Shenae Patrick Jr. Had 1.

Riley Tucker delivered 29 points for Ninilchik. Klohie Hughes had 9, Addi McCorison had 6 and Lucy Reynolds had 4.

Ninilchik boys 71, Tok 49

The Ninilchik boys opened the invitational with a victory over Tok, advancing to 12-8 overall.

With 29 points, Kade McCorison led the Wolverines on the scoreboard. Rowan Mahoney had 20, Kannon Hughes had 8, Carter Lemons had 6. Holden Corwin, Ben Hand, Gabe Kerrone and Tanner Berger all had 2.

For Tok, Marvin Captain had 17 points. Chairo Espinosa had 13, Dustin Captain had 10, Craig Paul had 5 and Gavin Maynard had 2.

Unalaska girls 65, Aniak 45

The Unalaska girls topped Aniak 65-45 in the first game of the invitational on Thursday.

Aniak boys 61, Unalaska 47

The Aniak boys took a win over Unalaska at 61-47.

Homer boys, Soldotna girls place 1st in ski invitational

Soldotna’s Tania Boonstra took first place for the girls’ division, leading her team to victory at the meet. The Homer girls’ varsity team placed second overall.

Kenai boys, girls both placed third overall in the Kachemak Conference Wrestling Championships on Saturday.

SoHi hockey won the End of the Road tournament in Homer and the wrestling team gained 20 individual wins.

The Kenai Central High School varsity volleyball team is named the 2025 3A Volleyball State Championship Tournament, held Nov. 13-15, 2025, at the Alaska Airlines Center in Anchorage, Alaska. The Kardinals defeated the Nikiski Bulldogs 3-2 in a "rematch" championship game on Saturday, Nov. 15, securing their third state title in the last four years.
