Thursday: Bartlett, Chugiak go 2-0 on 1st day of Bash on the Bay

The Bartlett and Chugiak softball teams are 2-0 after Thursday, the first day of the Bash on the Bay tournament in Homer.

Also, Homer and Soldotna are 1-1, and Kenai Central and Redington are 0-2.

The round-robin portion of the tournament continues Friday, before teams are seeded for Saturday play.

Friday, Redington plays Kenai at 9 a.m., Bartlett plays Chugiak at 9 a.m., Homer plays Bartlett at 10:30 a.m., Soldotna plays Kenai at 10:30 a.m., Chugiak plays Redington at 1:30 p.m., Soldotna plays Bartlett at 1:30 p.m., Kenai plays Homer at 3 p.m., Redington plays Soldotna at 3 p.m. and Homer plays Chugiak at 4:30 p.m.

Thursday, Soldotna defeated Homer 9-6 and lost to Chugiak 11-0.

The 9-6 game went only two innings. Bekah Pieh got two outs in giving up four unearned runs on no hits. Tatum Cooper went 1 1-3 innings in relief, giving up two unearned runs on two hits.

Lilly Dawley was 2 for 2 for the Stars, while Juliet Innes had two runs and three RBIs, and Kacey Cunningham and Bella Gares had two runs apiece.

Keagan Niebuhr went both innings for the Mariners, giving up eight runs — six earned — on seven hits.

Almalinda Norman had a pair of runs to lead the Mariners.

The Stars then lost to Chugiak in 3 1-2 innings to fall to 10-4-1 overall. Isabelle Cruz gave up 11 runs — seven earned — on 11 hits. Cooper and Cruz had the lone hits for the Stars.

Homer defeated Redington 9-6 to move to 4-9 overall.

Niebuhr continued to carry the pitching load, giving up six runs on four hits.

Amakah Stineff was 2 for 2 with two runs, while Jessica Plumlee was 2 for 2 with three RBIs. Also, Stella Condon had two runs, and Amanda Toci and Madisen Doynes each had two RBIs.

Kenai lost to Chugiak 2-1 and to Bartlett 13-7 to fall to 6-8 overall.

The Chugiak game went six innings. Kenai carried a 1-0 lead into the fifth before giving up runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

Avery Ellis went 5 1-3 innings for Kenai, giving up two runs — one earned — on five hits while only walking one.

The Kardinals did not get a hit against Chugiak, with Ellis scoring the lone run.

The Bartlett game went three innings. Kennah Gregory gave up nine runs — one earned — on six hits in two innings. Lola McEwen gave up four runs — three earned — on two hits.

Seylor Tomrdle was 2 for 2 with three RBIs for Kenai, while Avia Miller also was 2 for 2.
