The American Legion Post 20 Twins swept Dimond on Sunday at Coral Seymour Memorial Park in Kenai.
The Twins won 8-0 in the league game and 17-7 in five innings in the nonleague game to move to 2-2 in the league and 4-2 overall. Dimond Post 21 drops to 1-2 in the league and 2-3 overall.
In the league game, Jack Harper carried the day by tossing a shutout. Harper allowed five hits and walked one while striking out three. The Twins played errorless ball behind him.
At the plate, Jackson Koetitz walked three times, scored three times and had three of the team’s 10 stolen bases.
Ari Miller had three RBIs, while Clyde Clemens was 2 for 2 with two runs.
The Twins offense really got going in the second game, collecting 13 hits and 10 walks while striking out just four times.
Clemens was 2 for 3 with two runs, Jacob Joanis was 3 for 3 with three runs and three RBIs, Jayden Stuyvesant was 2 for 2, Harper scored twice, Tristen Roberts had two RBIs, Koetitz was 2 for 2 with three runs and two RBIs, Malakai BeDunnah had two RBIs, Dwight Brown had two runs and Miller had three more RBIs.
Clemens pitched two innings and gave up four runs on five hits, while Gavin Peterson pitched two innings and gave up two runs on four hits.
Stuyvesant pitched the last inning and gave up an unearned run on two hits.
The Twins now host the Lance Coz Wood Bat Tournament from Friday to Sunday, June 20 to 22.
Friday at Seymour Park, South plays Juneau at 1 p.m., South plays the Twins at 4 p.m. and Juneau plays Madisonville, Kentucky, at 7 p.m.
Saturday at Seymour Park, South plays Madisonville at 10 a.m., Madisonville plays the Twins at 1 p.m. and Juneau plays the Twins at 4 p.m.
Sunday at Seymour Park, the third place game will be at 10 a.m., while the championship is at 1 p.m.
The tournament is named in honor of Coz, who died in September 2020 at 73. He was pivotal in starting the Twins program and served as general manager and head coach until his death. The program won state titles in 1991, 1995, 2012 and 2016.
