Sterling’s Aldridge wins Moose Nugget Sprint

Sterling’s Morgan Aldridge won the Sprint Distance at the Moose Nugget Triathlon on Sunday in Anchorage.

The Sprint Distance is an 800-meter swim, 12.5-mile bike and five-kilometer run.

Aldridge finished in 1 hour, 19 minutes, 40 seconds, for the victory. The key to the win was a dominant leg on the bike. Aldridge’s time was 37:59, while runner-up Kristin Riall, who had a total time of 1:22:05, had the second-best bike leg at 43:02.

Homer’s Kristen Buckwalter was fourth at the Olympic Distance, which is a 1,500-meter swim, 40-kilometer bike and 10-kilometer run. Buckwalter finished at 2:52:42, while winner Pam Schamber was at 2:33:40.

The Olympic Distance served as the USA Triathlon Alaska State Championship Triathlon, while the Sprint Distance was the USA Triathlon Alaska High School State Championship.
