Soldotna girls cross-country wins Friday, Saturday in Kodiak

The Soldotna cross-country team competed with Kodiak and North Pole in a pair of meets Friday and Saturday in Kodiak.

Friday, the Kodiak Quad on the Rock featured a 5-kilometer race.

The Soldotna girls won the event with 18 points, while North Pole had 55 and Kodiak had 62.

The Stars took four of the top five spots, with Tania Boonstra in first at 21 minutes, 3 seconds, Kathryn Cox in second at 21:25, Kathryn DeBardelaben in third at 21:39 and Annie Burns in fifth at 22:02. The final scoring runner for SoHi was Anna Bailey in seventh at 23:06.

The SoHi boys were second with 47 points, while Kodiak won with 22 and North Pole was third with 67. North Pole’s Loch Johnson won at 17:30.

Scoring for the Stars were Ollie Dahl in fifth at 18:16, Paul Wertanen in eighth at 18:35, Noble Cassidy in ninth at 18:49, James Innes in 11th at 19:01 and Paxton Roach in 19th at 19:32.

Saturday, the Golf Course 4 x Mile featured every runner running a mile.

The SoHi girls nearly won with a perfect score, notching 16 points. North Pole had 52, while Kodiak had 71.

The Stars took five of the top six spots, with Boonstra in first at 6:23, Cox in second at 6:33, Bailey in third at 6:41, DeBardelaben in fourth at 6:41 and Sasha Brott in sixth at 6:43.

The Kodiak boys won with 20 points, while Soldotna had 47 and North Pole had 72.

Kodiak’s Miles Grimes won at 5:21. The scorers for Soldotna were Innes in sixth at 5:39, Dahl in seventh at 5:40, Cassidy in ninth at 5:46, Ethan Anding in 12th at 5:49 and Roach in 15th at 5:53.

Soldotna competes in the Region 3/Division I meet at Wasilla on Saturday, Sept. 28.

Kenai boys, girls both placed third overall in the Kachemak Conference Wrestling Championships on Saturday.

SoHi hockey won the End of the Road tournament in Homer and the wrestling team gained 20 individual wins.
