Soldotna captures Top Dog tourney

The Soldotna boys wrestling team won the Top Dog tournament at Nikiski Middle-High School on Friday and Saturday.

The Stars had 296.5 points, while Eagle River was second with 263. Also from the Kenai Peninsula, Kenai was fourth, Homer was sixth, Nikiski was seventh, Seward was eighth and Ninilchik was 18th.

The tournament does not give a team award for girls wrestling.

Winning championships for the Stars were Sam Henry at 112 pounds, Titus Watts at 125, Carson Cobb at 130, Jacob Strausbaugh at 135, Hunter Bras at 152, Michael Dickinson at 160, Anthony Payne at 171, Rodney McNeel at 189, Valarie McAnelly at 114 girls, Mia Hannevold at 120 girls and Infinity-Ann Asiata-Higa at 165 girls.

Saoirse Cook took the lone title for Homer at 132 girls, Ridge Conant had the lone title for Seward at 119 and Rex Wittmer had the lone team title for Nikiski at 215.

Kenai boys, girls both placed third overall in the Kachemak Conference Wrestling Championships on Saturday.
