Soldotna baseball shuts out Kenai

The Soldotna baseball team defeated Kenai Central 13-0 in five innings Tuesday at the Kenai Little League Fields in Southcentral Conference play.

Soldotna moved to 3-0 in the league and 3-0 overall with a third straight dominant win, while the Kardinals fall to 0-1 and 0-1.

Atticus Gibson and Andrew Pieh kept the Kardinals bats in check for the game.

Gibson worked the first four innings for the win, giving up just one hit. He walked three and struck out five.

Pieh pitched the final inning, giving up one hit while walking two.

Riley Johnson led Soldotna’s nine-hit attack. In the first inning, Johnson ripped a home run to center field. He ended up 3 for 4 with one run scored and five RBIs.

Also for the Stars, Jacob Belger was 2 for 4 with two runs, Nate Mowery was 2 for 3 with two RBIs, Levi Mickelson had three runs, Gibson had two runs, Dylan Davidhizar had two runs and Pieh had two runs.

Gabe Smith took the loss for the Kards, going 2 2-3 innings and giving up five runs — four earned — on four hits while walking two and striking out three.

Braden Smith came on in relief and gave up three runs on three hits in 1 1-3 innings, walking four and striking out one.

Johnny Brinner pitched the last inning, giving up five unearned runs on two hits while walking one and striking out two.

The hits for the Kardinals came from Brinner and Charlie Chamberlain.
