Soldotna baseball rolls past Homer

The Soldotna baseball team rolled past Homer 13-2 in six innings of Southcentral Conference play Tuesday at the Soldotna Little League fields.

The Stars, winners of four straight, move to 7-1 in the league and 9-2 overall, while the Mariners fall to 1-6 and 2-8.

Atticus Gibson and Riley Johnson combined to hold down Homer’s bats.

Gibson got the win by working four innings and giving up two unearned runs on three hits while walking none and striking out six. Johnson finished things up with two scoreless, hitless innings. He struck out two.

The Stars led 1-0 after an inning, 4-1 after two innings and 10-2 after three innings. With three runs in the bottom of the sixth, SoHi forced the mercy rule.

Jacob Belger scored three runs for the Stars, while Levi Mickelson was 3 for 4, Gavin Jones had a pair of RBIs, Johnson scored twice, Nate Mowery had two runs and two RBIs, Evan Appelhans scored a pair of runs, and Derrick Jones had two hits and two runs.

For Homer, Mylan Johnson gave up nine runs — six earned — on six hits while walking two and striking out two. Malachi Raymond pitched the last three innings, giving up four runs on six hits while walking two.

Johnson, Zach Marley and Raymond had the hits for Homer, while Marley and Gabe Dash had runs.
