SoHi wrestlers 4th at Grizzly Shakedown

Soldotna High School led the Kenai Peninsula by finishing fourth Saturday at the 24-team Grace Grizzly Shakedown in Anchorage.

The meet was the last chance for teams to tune up before the conference tournaments next weekend.

South won the meet with 196 points, while Palmer was second with 141, Colony was third with 131 and the Stars were fourth with 123.

Also from the peninsula, Kenai Central was 14th with 42 points, Homer was 15th with 34.5 points and Seward was 19th with 17.5 points.

The Stars received individual championships from Trinity Donovan at girls 145 pounds, Isaac Chavarria at 145 and Hunter Richardson at 189.

Donovan notched a 5-0 decision over Colony’s Kaitlyn Cottrell in the championship match.

Chavarria took a 14-4 major decision over South’s Beau Daily to win his title.

Richardson recorded a 6-2 decision over Gabriel Beaudoin of Colony to come out on top of the division.

Also for the Stars, Jessica Leclair was second at girls 103, Ezekiel Miller was second at 125, Angelina Chavarria was third at girls 112, Daisy Hannevold was third at girls 135, Jacob Strausbaugh was third at 103 and Logan Duyck was fourth at 145.

Kenai was led by an individual title from Simone Watts at girls 160. Watts pinned her way through the tournament, including recording a pin of Ally Hrncir of Palmer in the championship match.

Homer got an individual championship from Cecilia Fitzpatrick at varsity 2 girls 119. Fitzpatrick won by pinning Uno Tate of Chugiak.

Also for Homer, Nestor Kalugin was second at 171, Fitzpatrick was fourth at girls 119, Michelle Wells was third at girls 235, Wells was second at varsity 2 girls 235.
