Both the Soldotna girls and Nikiski boys lost in the semifinals of the 54th Annual Joe Floyd Christmas Tournament in Kodiak on Tuesday.
The Soldotna girls lost to North Pole 30-27, while the Nikiski boys lost to Kodiak 64-36.
In the girls playback bracket, Bethel advanced out of the morning game with a 45-26 victory over Kodiak. The Warriors then advanced to the semifinal with a 50-25 victory over Nikiski.
Today, SoHi and Bethel will play at 9 a.m. for the right to face North Pole in the 6 p.m. final. Kodiak and Nikiski will face off at 2 p.m.
In the boys playback bracket, Soldotna started the day with a 75-46 victory over Bethel, then kept right on rolling with a 75-47 victory over North Pole to advance to the semifinal.
Today, Bethel and North Pole will play at 11 a.m., while Nikiski and Soldotna play at 4 p.m. for the right to face Kodiak in the 8 p.m. championship game.
North Pole girls 30, Soldotna 27
The Stars dropped a game that was tight all the way. North Pole led 8-5 after the first quarter, 16-14 at halftime and 25-21 after three quarters.
Alicia Guzman had 13 for the Patriots, while Tialina Guzman had five, Neveah Robinson and Madison Gylnn each had four, and Taylor Croan and Hannah Swinning each had two.
For the Stars, Rhys Cannava had seven, Katelyn Morrison had five, Kaitlyn McAnelly and Alex Lee each had four, Ellie Burns had three and Montana Fischer and Tanner Inman had two apiece.
Kodiak boys 64, Nikiski 36
The Bears led 31-12 at halftime in advancing to the championship game.
Jackson Krug had 13 for the Bears, while Shawn Case had 11. Also for Kodiak, John Ticman, Frankie Marcelo and Connor Case each had eight, Joren Valdez and Brandon DelaCruz each had seven, and Kelly Ticman had two.
For Nikiski, Brady Bostic led the way with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Isaiah Daniels pitched in eight, while Seth Payne, Dillon Hanson and Charlie Chamberlain had three, Drew Handley had two, and Levi Anderson added one.
Soldotna boys 75, Bethel 46
The Stars took a 40-25 lead after the first half in the win early Tuesday.
Ethan Sewell poured in 21 for Soldotna, which saw all 11 players find their way into the scoring column. Jakob Brown and Daniel McRorie also got into double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Also for the Stars, Maleda Denbrock and Blake Inger each had seven, Brock Wilson had six, Derrick Jones had four, Zac Buckbee had three, and Andrew Pieh, Will Inman and Hamilton Hunt had two apiece.
For Bethel, Peter Crow notched 24 points, while Mason Fitka had nine, Maddon Cockroft had eight, Greg Turner and Mathew Fredericks each had two, and Paul Dyment had one.
Soldotna boys 75, North Pole 47
The Stars led 46-27 after a half in rolling to another big victory.
Soldotna was able to put four players in double figures. Andrew Pieh had 16, while Ethan Sewell had 15, Maleda Denbrock had 11 and Jakob Brown had 10.
Also for the Stars, Derrick Jones had seven, Will Inman and Brock Wilson each had six and Zac Buckbee had four.
For the Patriots, Joseph Campbell had 23, Weston Vakrushev had 13, Copper Smith had seven, and Josh Dutra and Riley Fisher each had two.
Bethel girls 50, Nikiski 25
The Warriors took a 27-10 lead after the first half on the road to victory.
Bryn Garrison had 20 for Bethel, while Kendal Herron had nine, Ava Lieb had seven, Kate Smith had six, Fiona Phelan had four, and Leah Sosa and Payton Boney each had two.
For Nikiski, Savanna Stock had seven, Kinley Jeffreys had six, Avery White and Rylee Ellis each had five and Emma Weeks had two.
Ketchikan girls 62, Homer 21
The Kings topped the Mariners in the first round of the 2021 Clarke Cochrane Christmas Classic in Ketchikan.
