SoHi C hoops teams topple CIA

The host Cook Inlet Academy girls and boys basketball teams lost games to Soldotna’s C team Tuesday as the Eagles tuned up for this weekend’s Peninsula Conference tournament at Lumen Christi in Anchorage.

The Stars won the girls game 43-26 to drop the Eagles to 5-12 overall.

For the Stars, Regan Hunt and Sadie Lane had 14 points, Delany Smith and Abygale Shaeffer had four, Anika Jedlicka, Avery Walden and Alyssa McDonald had two, and Annie Burns had one.

For the CIA girls, Tatum Rozak had 13, Hope Hillyer had 11 and Rebekah Dillingham had two.

The Stars won the boys game 39-23 as the Eagles fell to 8-10 overall.

Elijah Lee paced the Stars with 10 points, while Chris Glaves had seven, Talon Gavales had five, Kenai Lepule had four, Landon Hinds and Jace O’Reagan had three, Ben Inman, Trenton Towarek and Austin Lewis had two, and Lokeni Wong had one.

For the CIA boys, Jeremy Dillingham had 12, Abraham Henderson had six, Austin Sorhus had three and Paxton McKnight had two.

The CIA girls, the third seed in the four-team tournament, open up play Thursday with a 2:45 p.m. game against No. 2 Birchwood Christian. The other game features No. 1 Lumen Christi vs. No. 4 Nanwalek.

The boys tournament, which has five teams, starts today with a 3 p.m. game between No. 4 Birchwood and No. 5 Holy Rosary Academy.

Thursday, No. 2 CIA plays No. 3 Nanwalek at 4:30 p.m., while No. 1 Lumen Christi plays the winner of Birchwood and Holy Rosary at 8 p.m.

The top two teams in the girls and boys tournament earns berths to the Class 1A/2A state tournament at the Alaska Airlines Center from March 16 to 19.
