Seward runners sweep individual races at Diekgraeff Invite

Seward runners Ruby Lindquist and Hunter Kratz swept the individual races Friday at the Frank Diekgraeff Invitational in Seward, while the Kenai girls also picked up a title.

Lindquist finished the five-kilometer course in 19 minutes, 58 seconds, to top runner-up Riana Boonstra of Kenai Central by seven seconds.

Kratz toured the course in 16:48 to defeat runner-up Blake Bennett of Anchorage Christian Schools by 11 seconds.

The Kenai girls scored 35 points to top the 52 of runner-up Grace Christian.

In addition of Boonstra, scoring for the Kardinals were Jaycie Calvert in third, Brooke Satathite in ninth, Ithaca Bergholtz in 11th and Addison Gibson in 13th.

Kellie Arthur led Soldotna in 18th.

The Wasilla boys won with 65 points, while Soldotna was second at 77.

The Stars got an 11th from Josh Shuler, a 12th from Koby Vinson, a 13th from Sean Verg-in, a 21st from John-Mark Pothast and a 23rd from Bradley Walters.

Kenai Central’s Braden Olsen led the central Kenai Peninsula by taking seventh, while Karl Danielson of the Kardinals was ninth.

Aaron McCollum paced Nikiski by finishing 50th, while Mose Hayes was 52nd for Homer.

Homer sweeps at Abercrombie Invitational

The Homer cross-country team went into one of the state’s running hotbeds and swept the Abercrombie Invitational on Friday at Fort Abercrombie State Historical Park in Kodiak.

The Mariners boys scored 29 points to top runner-up Kodiak by 10, while the Mariners girls also scored 29 to runner-up Kodiak’s 51.

Kodiak’s Keith Osowski won the boys race in 16 minutes, 45 seconds, while Jack Hannah of Kodiak was second at 17:13.

The scorers for Homer were Jordan Beachy in third, Jared Brant in fourth, Luciano Fasulo in fifth, Jacob Davis in sixth and Charlie Menke in 11th. Menke ran 18:12, and the rest of Homer’s runners were 17:30 or lower.

Homer’s Megan Pitzman won the girls race to lead her squad to the crown. Aubrey LeClari of West was second at 20:44.

Also scoring for Homer were Audrey Rosencrans in third, Autumn Daigle in fourth, Lauren Evarts in 10th and Haley Knott in 11th.

Soldotna’s Tania Boonstra took first place for the girls’ division, leading her team to victory at the meet. The Homer girls’ varsity team placed second overall.
