The visiting Soldotna softball team split with Kodiak in a Saturday Northern Lights Conference doubleheader.
The Stars lost the first game 9-1 before bouncing back for a 13-5 victory.
Both teams now have one loss in the conference, with SoHi resting at 7-1 in the league and 16-6-1 overall.
For the Bears, it was the first NLC regular season loss since 2018. Kodiak had won 56 in a row, dating back to the 2019 NLC opener.
SoHi did notch a victory over the Bears in last season’s NLC tourney before Kodiak came back to win the NLC title and take second in Division II state.
The first game went five innings, with Kodiak scoring four times in the third and five times in the fifth to take command.
Both teams had two hits, but SoHi had four errors to Kodiak’s one, and Kodiak walked four times to one for SoHi.
Isabelle Cruz went 4 1-3 innings for SoHi, giving up nine runs — five earned — on two hits, while walking four and striking out five.
Cruz had a hit and a run for SoHi, while Kacey Cunningham had a hit and an RBI.
Cruz got her revenge in the second game, which went six innings, as the Stars trailed 1-0 after two innings and ran away with the game after that.
Cruz worked all six innings and gave up five runs — two earned — on four hits while walking one and striking out 11.
At the plate, Cruz was 3 for 4 with a run and three RBIs.
Also, Alyssa McDonald was 2 for 4 with two runs, Lilly Dawley was 3 for 4 with two runs and two RBIs, Izzy Jones was 2 for 3 with three runs and an RBI, and Kathryn DeBardelaben scored two runs.
