Saturday soccer: Soldotna sweeps Houston

The visiting Soldotna girls and boys soccer teams swept Houston in nonconference action Saturday.

The Stars girls won 9-0 to move to 8-4-2 overall as Jillian Duncan scored five times.

Soldotna went up 4-0 in the first half. Duncan scored with help from Teagen Kobylarz and Sadie Lane, Duncan scored unassisted, Lane scored on Jazzalynn McDonald and Duncan assists, and Duncan scored unassisted.

In the second half, Kobylarz scored on a Johana Jedlicka assist, Duncan scored unassisted, Duncan scored on an Alexis Verba assist, Rowan Peck scored a penalty kick, and Kobylarz scored with help from Lane.

The Soldotna boys won 11-0 to move to 11-4-1 overall, with Luke Hillyer recording the shutout.

“We needed some good finishing to end this trip,” SoHi head coach Erik Dolphin wrote in a text message. “Palmer and Grace were challenging games, so it felt good to go score.”

Dolphin said the starters played 25 or 30 minutes before the subs came in.

The Stars led 8-0 after the first half and 5-0 after 11 minutes.

In the first 11 minutes, Harold Rudstrom scored unassisted, Simon Willets scored with help from Lane Hillyer and Johnny Wardas, Willets scored on Rudstrom and Wardas assists, and Daniel Heath scored on a Wardas assist.

To close the half, Heath scored on an Owen Buckbee throw-in, Lane Hillyer scored on a free kick and Jonas Albrecht scored on a Heath assist.

In the second half, Willets scored on a Lane Hillyer assist, Ryatt Weed scored on a Ryan McVey assist and Ely Campbell scored on an Owen Buckbee assist.
