Saturday hoops: Kenai boys take 3rd at Mountain City tourney

The Kenai Central boys took third place at the Mountain City Basketball Invitational in Anchorage on Saturday with a 51-28 victory over Kotzebue.

The Kardinals, who had a 16-2 lead after the first quarter, are now 3-3 overall.

Miles Metteer paced Kenai with 22 points, while Caleb Litke had 11, Mason Tunseth had 6, Riel Castillo and Reid Titus had 5, and Carter Felchle had 2.

For Kotzebue, Uriel Zuniga had 15, John Tikik had 8, Jake Sheldon had 5, and Ayden Wesley and Tyler Kramer had 4.

Also Saturday, the Nikiski boys took eighth at the tournament after a 76-50 loss to Tikigaq. The Bulldogs are 0-3 overall.

Kevin Love scored 19 for Nikiski, while Carter Eiter pitched in 17. Also, Kameron Bird had 8, and Dylan Hall and Ryder Maguire had 3 apiece.

Micah Kinneeveauk had 23 for the Harpooners, while Luther Lane had 22. Also, Aqquilluk Hank had 15, Dominic Johnson and Ephraim Nash had 6, and Jonah Killigvuk and Justin Attugana had 2.

Soldotna girls 63, Kodiak 28

The host Stars moved to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the Northern Lights Conference with the Saturday triumph.

For the Stars, Hope Hillyer pumped in 19 while Anaulie Sedivy and Laurel Johnson had 8, Rebekah Pieh had 7, Juliet Innes and Isabelle Cruz had 6, Teagan Kobylarz had 4, Anika Jedlicka and Kathryn DeBardelaben had 2, and Jillian Duncan had 1.

Mizzy Arbues led the way for Kodiak with 17.

Soldotna boys 61, Kodiak 50

The host Stars finished a weekend sweep of the Bears on Saturday in Northern Lights Conference play.

Soldotna, which had a 46-27 lead entering the fourth quarter, moves to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the league.

Izaiah Gilbert had 25, including 17 in the second quarter, to lead SoHi. Easton Hawkins pitched in 17, while Owen Buckee had 4, Theo Huff, Jayden Stuyvesant and Kenai Lepule had 3, and Bryan Berg had 2.

For Kodiak, Kelly Ticman had 15, Bubba Basuel and Liam Danelski had 7, Mac Abellera had 6, Hayden Picciolo had 5, Isaac Calderon and Gavin Basuel had 3, and Jon Bradbury and Christian Enriquez had 2.

Seward girls 60, Lumen Christi 33

The host Seahawks improved to 2-2 overall by winning their Southern Conference opener Saturday.

Seward trailed 13-12 after the first quarter, but led 28-20 by halftime. The Seahawks moved down from Class 3A to the Class 2A level this season, while the Archangels moved up from Class 1A.

Mikinley Williams poured in 28 for the Seahawks, while Ava Jagielski had 13, Lia Shank, Addison Lemme and Grace Fleming had 6, and Regan Siebert had 1.

For Lumen, Isabel Brown had 14, Amara Warren had 11, Lily Muller had 6, and Kaylee Connaker and Kendra Jarrett each had 2.

Seward boys 69, Lumen Christi 49

The host Seahawks are 1-3 overall after a victory in their Southern Conference opener.

Seward jumped to a 23-12 lead after the first quarter. In the first eight minutes, Emerson Cross had 11 of his 19 points and Talon Lemme had 10 of his 19 points. Also, Mason Elhard had 16, Noah Price had 5, Jack Lindquist and Van Shank had 4, and Lane Petersen had 2.

For the Archangels, Tai Nelson had 14, Carson Wingate had 13, Bryce Sanders had 9, Porter Brady had 7, Henry Pekar had 3, Troy Knolley had 2 and Kyle Boquet had 1.
