Saturday baseball: SoHi, Kenai enact mercy rule in conference wins

The visiting Soldotna baseball team defeated Kodiak 10-0 in five innings Saturday in Northern Lights Conference play.

Soldotna, which has won six straight, is 6-1 in the league and 9-9-2 overall.

Colby Sturman and Wyatt Gagnon combined on a no-hitter of sorts for the Stars.

Van Williams tracks no-hitters as editor of the Alaska Sports Report and media director for American Legion baseball and counts only games that go the full seven innings as no-hitters.

Sturman went three perfect innings, striking out seven of the nine he faced.

Gagnon worked the last two innings and allowed Kodiak’s only runner of the game by hitting a batter, but a double play meant the Stars still faced the minimum.

SoHi had five hits and took 10 walks, while the Bears committed four errors.
