Allie Ostrander, a 2015 graduate of Kenai Central, earned the right to defend her 3,000-meter steeplechase national title Friday at the NCAA West Preliminary Championships in Sacramento, California.

Saturday, Ostrander qualified for the 5,000, meaning she once again will do two events at the national meet.

The Soldotna runner and Boise State redshirt sophomore finished seven seconds clear of the field in the 3,000 steeplechase to win in 9 minutes, 40.20 seconds, just off her personal record of 9:38.57 in the event.

In Ostrander’s 5,000 race, she finished second at 15:27.46 to qualify.
