Allie Ostrander, a 2015 graduate of Kenai Central High School, was named to the 2017-18 Google Cloud Academic All-America Division I Cross Country and Track and Field First Team on Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Ostrander, a redshirt sophomore at Boise State, is the first Broncos student-athlete to earn first-team honors, and the second, after Brenna Peloquin in 2017, to make the Academic All-America list.

The Soldotna runner and kinesiology major finished the year with a 4.0 grade-point average. Ostrander’s prowess in running and the classroom also led to her getting the NCAA Elite 90 Award this year. The award is given to the best scholar-athlete at each of the NCAA’s 90 championship sites. Ostrander won it in November for cross-country. She also nabbed Academic All-Mountain West honors in the fall 2017 semester.

Ostrander earned five All-American honors from cross-country through track and field this season. She started by finishing fourth at the NCAA Cross Country Championship in the fall. In indoor track, she was second at 3,000 meters and fifth in the distance medley relay. She then capped the season by defending her title in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. For good measure, Ostrander was eighth in the 5,000 less than an hour later to pile up another All-American honor.
