The Nikolaevsk volleyball team became the sole qualifier to the Mixed 6 state tournament by capturing the Denali Conference tournament Saturday in Kodiak.

Only one team from the Denali Conference qualifies, so the Warriors had only one option. Win. Only nine teams from a pool of eight conferences around Alaska qualify for the Mixed 6 state tournament.

Friday and Saturday’s Denali Conference tourney featured a double elimination-style system, but Nikolaevsk didn’t need a second chance. The Warriors began Friday with a 3-0 sweep of Anderson, then continued Saturday with a 3-1 win over Kodiak ESS, then claimed the region crown with a 3-0 victory over Seldovia.
