Trenton Ohnemus and Jayden Stuyvesant combined to hold Homer scoreless for eight innings as Soldotna defeated Homer 3-0 in eight innings on Monday in Northern Lights Conference play in Homer.
The Stars won their fourth straight to move to 4-1 in the league and 7-9-2 overall. The Mariners fall to 2-3 and 7-5.
The game was a pitchers’ duel between Ohnemus, the winning pitcher in the last two Division II state title games, and Homer’s Weston Marley.
Ohnemus was in dominant form, carrying a no-hitter through seven innings and striking out 14 while walking just one. He threw 90 pitches, 63 for strikes. The Stars did not have an error in the game.
Marley was just as effective keeping runs off the board, working around two hits and five walks in six innings. Marley had two strikeouts. Homer had just one error in the game.
Preston Stanislaw came on in relief for Marley. SoHi mounted the winning rally against him in the eighth.
With one away, Jackson Koetitz walked, then Tucker Blough struck out while Koetitz remained at first.
Koetitz then made it to second on a wild pitch, and an infield single by Brenden Theel put runners at the corners.
With pinch hitter Malakai BeDunnah at the plate, Theel stole second. BeDunnah then singled to score a pair of runs.
After Easton Hawkins walked, Jett Brophy, who was 2 for 5, doubled to put SoHi up 3-0.
That would be enough for Stuyvesant, who would strike out the side. But not before Henry Wedvik doubled with one out to break up the no-hitter.
