Monday hoops: SoHi girls take 4th in San Diego tourney

The Soldotna girls finished fourth in the NAIA Bronze bracket at the So Cal Holiday Prep Classic in San Diego on Monday.

The Stars took a 40-32 loss to University City, California, in the game for third place. SoHi falls to 4-2 overall.

Soldotna head coach Rustin Hitchcock wrote in a text message his team got off to a tough start, but fought back pretty fiercely.

The Stars fell behind 14-5 after the first quarter, but cut the gap to 19-17 at halftime and grabbed a 27-25 lead after three quarters.

Hitchcock wrote his team’s 2 for 18 performance at the foul line was the difference in the game.

Hope Hillyer paced SoHi with 11 points, while Anika Jedlicka had 6, Ryan Queen and Anaulie Sedivy had 4, Teagan Kobylarz had 3, and Isabelle Cruz and Juliet Innes had 2.

For the Centurions, Kami Demara had 13, Kianna LeFear and Amara Whitehurst-Quinagon had 9, Kailly Gonzalez had 7 and Jennifer Lopez had 2.
