Mineshaft Grinder gets 62 finishers

The Mineshaft Grinder in Hope, put on by the Kenai Mountains-Turnagain Arm National Heritage Area, drew 62 finishers Saturday.

The three events in the race celebrate the mining history in Hope by encouraging racers up Palmer Creek Road, according to the website. The race started in 2018.

The three events are the Gold Grinder, an uphill-only bike race that climbs 1,900 feet in 11 miles; the Silver Grinder, an out-and-back half marathon; and the Quartz Grinder, an 8.5-mile out-and-back run.
