Kenai volleyball takes 3rd at Dimond/Service Tourney

The Kenai Central volleyball team led the Kenai Peninsula by finishing third in the Gold Bracket at the Dimond/Service Volleyball Tournament on Saturday in Anchorage.

Jorgi Phillips and Emma Beck made the all-tournament team for the Kardinals.

Kenai started by beating Kodiak 23-25, 25-17 and 15-10, then lost to Dimond 25-11 and 25-18. Kenai came back to defeat Chugiak 25-9, 9-25 and 15-5, then beat Thunder Mountain 25-22 and 25-20, before losing to West 19-25, 25-13 and 15-11.

Soldotna was third in the championship Silver Bracket. The Stars beat Nikiski 25-18 and 25-19, then lost to Palmer 26-24 and 25-19. Nikiski was second in the consolation Silver Bracket. The Bulldogs lost to Soldotna, then beat West Valley 27-25 and 25-20 before losing to Lathrop 25-23 and 25-15.

Homer won the championship Bronze Bracket, beating Grace Christian in three before topping Juneau 25-23 and 25-22. Seward won the consolation Bronze Bracket, losing to Juneau 25-15, 22-25 and 15-9, before topping Grace 25-21 and 25-23.

In Friday pool play, Kenai was 8-0 in Pool D. The Kards beat Seward 25-13, 25-15, beat Chugiak 25-16, 25-20, beat North Pole 25-12, 25-19 and beat Palmer 25-14, 25-15. Seward was 1-7 in Pool D, losing to Kenai, losing to Chugiak 25-18, 25-15, losing to Palmer 25-16, 25-17, and splitting with North Pole 23-25, 25-23.

Nikiski was 3-5 in Pool A, losing to Bartlett 25-16, 25-9, losing to Dimond 25-16, 25-14, splitting with Juneau 21-25, 25-18, beating West Valley 25-22, 25-12.

Homer was 0-8 in Pool B, losing to East 25-19, 25-19, losing to Kodiak 25-18, 26-24, losing to Lathrop 25-19, 25-18, and losing to West 25-16, 25-7.

Soldotna was 3-5 in Pool C, losing to Eagle River 26-24, 25-22, splitting with Service 18-25, 25-21, losing to Thunder Mountain 25-17, 25-19, and defeating Grace 25-19, 25-16.
