Kenai volleyball finishes undefeated regular season

The Kenai Central volleyball team finished the regular season undefeated in nontournament play and in the Southcentral Conference with a sweep at Grace Christian on Saturday.

The Kards moved to 15-0 overall and 10-0 in the league with a 27-25, 25-13 and 25-12 victory over the Grizzlies. Kenai dropped only three games in its 15 nontournament matches.

Jorgi Phillips had 18 assists and three aces, while Erin Koziczkowski had two stuff blocks and five kills, Emma Beck had 11 kills, Andie Galloway had 18 digs and seven kills, and Valerie Villegas had 23 digs.

Kenai Central 3, ACS 0

The visiting Kardinals moved to 14-0 in nontournament play and 9-0 in the Southcentral Conference with 25-11, 25-3 and 25-13 victories over Anchorage Christian Schools.

Camilla Gonzalez had nine digs and six aces, while Emma Beck had 10 kills, Andie Galloway had four kills, Jorgi Phillips had five aces and Valerie Villegas had 11 aces.

Kodiak 3, Soldotna 2

The host Bears topped the Stars on Friday in Northern Lights Conference action. SoHi dropped to 0-7 in the league and 3-12 in nontournament play.

The scores were 24-26, 25-15, 25-14, 23-25 and 15-9. Kristen Carstens paced the Bears with 23 kills, 24 digs, seven aces and three blocks.

For SoHi, Aleena Zener and Adarra Hagelund each had five aces, while Katelyn Morrison and Chloe Armstrong had seven kills. Hagelund and Morrison added two blocks, while Zener had 15 digs.

Kodiak 3, Soldotna 0

The host Bears notched 25-22, 25-18 and 25-10 victories to finish 4-4 in NLC play. The Stars finish 0-8 in the league and 3-13 in nontournament play.

Carstens had 16 digs and 14 kills for the Bears. Armstrong had nine kills and Zener had 21 digs for the Stars.

Soldotna coach Luke Baumer said Kodiak’s awesome defense eventually wore his team down with long rallies.

“I’m still confident we’re peaking at the right time,” Baumer said. “We’re doing what I was hoping we’d be doing at this point — we’re playing our best volleyball.”

Homer 3, Houston 0

The visiting Mariners swept the Hawks in Southcentral Conference play Friday. The scores were 25-21, 25-16 and 25-22.

Gracie Gummer put up 20 kills, while Olivia Lafleur had seven kills, Brooke Shafer had 32 assists and Izzy Dye had seven aces. The Mariners move to 6-2 in the league and 9-2 in nontournament play.

Homer 3, Redington 0

The visiting Mariners swept Redington on Saturday in Southcentral Conference play to move to 7-2 in the conference and 10-2 overall.

The match was called early by a power outage, so the scores were 25-21, 25-17 and 19-9. Brooke Shafer had 21 assists and nine aces, while Gracie Gummer had nine kills and Izzy Dye had 10 kills.

Grace Christian 3, Seward 1

The host Grizzlies notched a 25-17, 18-25, 25-20 and 25-19 victory over Seward on Friday in Southcentral Conference action.

The Seahawks fell to 3-4 in the conference and 4-5 in nontournament play.

Seward 3, ACS 2

The visiting Seahawks notched a Southcentral Conference victory over the Lions on Saturday.

Seward moves to 4-4 in the Southcentral Conference and 5-5 in nontournament play with the victory. The scores were 21-25, 25-13, 21-25, 25-9 and 15-8.

SoHi hockey won the End of the Road tournament in Homer and the wrestling team gained 20 individual wins.
