Kenai Central leads area by finishing 4th at Dimond-Service

The Kenai Central volleyball team led the area by finishing fourth at the Dimond-Service volleyball tournament Friday and Saturday in Anchorage.

Also in the Gold Bracket, Nikiski was seventh. In the Silver Bracket, Soldotna took the consolation bracket.

Sophie Tapley and Kate Wisnewski made the all-tournament team for Kenai, while Morgan Simac made it for Soldotna and Ashlynne Playle made it for Nikiski.

In the Gold Bracket, Kenai started with a 25-22 victory over Nikiski, then lost 25-22, 25-13 to Dimond. Dimond eventually lost in the championship to South. Kenai then defeated Palmer 25-19, 25-20 before losing to Service 25-20, 15-25 and 15-11.

After losing to Kenai, Nikiski lost 25-17, 25-21 to Service.

In the Silver Bracket, Soldotna lost 25-22, 25-16 to Chugiak, then defeated West 25-19, 25-6 and Valdez 25-15, 25-10.

The tournament brackets were seeded by pool play.

Kenai won Pool D at 6-2. Kenai defeated Bartlett 25-18, 25-13, split with SoHi with a 25-18 win and 26-24 loss, defeated Lathrop 25-12, 25-18, and split with East with a 25-18 loss and 25-18 win.

Soldotna was 4-4 in Pool D. The Stars split with Lathrop with a 25-22 loss and 25-21 win, defeated Bartlett 25-21, 25-14, split with Kenai, and lost to East 25-21, 25-17.

Nikiski was second in Pool B at 5-3. The Bulldogs lost to South 25-14, 25-17, split with West 2 with a 25-21 loss and 25-17 victory, defeated Nikiski 25-11, 25-17, and defeated Chugiak 25-12, 25-23.
