Hoops roundup: Soldotna girls move to 13-0

The host Soldotna girls basketball team cruised past Kenai Central on Thursday to improve to 13-0 and 4-0 against the Kardinals.

Kenai, which is now 4-10, fell into a 14-5 hole after the first quarter and 34-9 deficit at the half.

Josie Sheridan and Morgan Bouschor each had 11 points for the Stars. For Kenai, Emma Beck had 12.

The visiting Kardinals improved to 10-4 by improving to 4-0 against the Stars. SoHi falls to 3-10.

Kenai was in control throughout, leading 10-7 after a quarter, 25-15 at the half and 42-25 after three quarters.

Jordan Kvasnikoff paced the Kards with 20 points, while James Baisden had 10 and Jakob Kvasnikoff added nine.

Homer girls 45, Nikiski 40

The visiting Mariners got off to a quick start to improve to 8-4 and 3-1 against the Bulldogs, who fall to 4-9.

Homer led 14-6 after the first quarter and 22-11 at the half.

Hannah Hatfield paced the Mariners with 16 points, while Lillian Carstens poured in 29 for Nikiski.

Homer boys 61, Nikiski 49

The host Bulldogs, now 1-3, stayed with the Mariners, now 10-2, for a half. Homer won the third quarter 18-8 to move to 4-0 against Nikiski.

Nikiski led 15-12 after the first quarter, while Homer was up 30-29 at halftime.

Clayton Beachy and Parker Lowney each had 14 for the Mariners, while Carter Tennison and Josiah Raymond had 12 apiece.

For Nikiski, Austin Sutton had 15, while Brady Bostic and Drew Handley each pitched in 11.
