Homer’s McDonough wins Plumley Invite, while SoHi’s Jedlicki takes 2nd

Homer senior Seamus McDonough won the George Plumley XC Invitational on Saturday at the Michael Janecek Trails in Palmer, while Soldotna freshman Sophia Jedlicki took second in the girls race.

McDonough finished the mostly flat 5-kilometer course in 16 minutes, 11 seconds, for the victory, with Colony’s Matthew Rongitsch in second at 16:20. Kenai Central’s Greg Fallon also got in the top 10 for the Kenai Peninsula by taking ninth in 17:09.

Chugiak senior Campbell Peterson ran 19:27 for the girls victory, with Jedlicki 10 seconds back. Soldotna’s Tania Boonstra took 10th at 20:18, while Kenai’s Jayna Boonstra was the top Division II runner, taking 11th at 20:19.

Jedlicki and Boonstra led the Stars to a fifth-place team finish, with Chugiak taking the title. Also from the peninsula, Homer was 10th.

Also for the Stars, Kaytlin McAnelly was 56th in 22:50, Annie Burns was 60th in 22:55, Delainie Wagers was 82nd in 23:47, Megan Whittom was 89th in 23:59 and Laurel Johnson was 111th in 25:16.

For the Mariners, Daisy Walker was 37th in 22:10, Claira Booz was 47th in 22:35, Eryn Field was 48th in 22:38, Elena Badajos was 80th in 23:45, Beatrix McDonough was 97th in 24:28, Frida Renner was 104th in 24:46 and McKenna Black was 128th in 26:35.

Also for Kenai, Emilee Wilson was 32nd in 21:51, Emily Moss was 71st in 23:23 and Mya Taylor was 134th in 27:11.

McDonough led the Mariners to sixth in the team standings, with Colony taking the top spot. Kenai was 14th, while Soldotna was 18th.

Also for Homer, Lance Seneff was 18th in 17:39, Theodore McDonough was 33rd in 18:05, Ethan Styvar was 64th in 18:51, Jody Goodrich was 77th in 19:03, Jai Badajos was 88th in 19:10 and Jonah Mershon was 102nd in 19:38.

Also for Kenai, Jack Laker was 42nd in 18:19, Chase Laker was 89th in 19:13, Zane Tews was 94th in 19:23, Robert Carson was 129th in 20:30, Logan Cartwright was 130th in 20:31 and Zane Pellegrom was 144th in 21:06.

For the Stars, Elijah Jedlicki was 103rd in 19:39, Levi Mickelson was 107th in 19:45, Jonathan Gordon was 108th in 19:45, Isaac Chavarria was 113th in 19:51, Finnley Loop was 123rd in 20:14, Andrew Cox was 133rd in 20:43 and Noble Cassidy was 134th in 20:44.

Soldotna’s Tania Boonstra took first place for the girls’ division, leading her team to victory at the meet. The Homer girls’ varsity team placed second overall.
